Waimea Falls, also known as Waihi Falls, is one of the more accessible falls on Oahu. It is located within Waimea Valley, which is a unique Hawaiian botanical garden within a significant cultural and archaeological site. There is a small fee to enter the park ($15 adults, $7.50 children). This is a worthwhile contribution, as the place is dedicated to the preservation of the incredible botanical and cultural features of the area.
The Waikiki Aquarium is located on the shores of Kapiolani Beach Park, near the Honolulu Zoo and within walking distance of Waikiki Beach.
There is a lot to see in this area, so plan a day trip or two to visit all of the local sights including Diamond Head Crater. Founded in 1904, the Aquarium is the second oldest in the U.S., and with over 3,500 organisms from 490 species on exhibit, it gives the visitor a unique opportunity to get a close look at some unique and endangered marine life such as living coral, jellyfish, reef sharks and green sea turtles. the Manoa Falls Trail definitely falls on the "walk" end of the walk-hike spectrum, with a roundtrip distance of just 1.6 miles and an uphill grade that isn't too demanding. The trail is located just a 15-minute drive from the hustle and bustle of urban Honolulu, but once you're on its path, surrounded by the lush, verdant views of Manoa Valley, you'll feel like you're in a completely different world. map
Surfing
Massive, bone-crunching waves and surfers on every corner - that's probably what one thinks of when they hear "North Shore." Those gigantic 30-foot waves are prevalent in the winter months but calm down in the summers to allow for glorious diving and snorkeling conditions.
The crowds certainly gather in the area's top beaches like Sunset, Banzai Pipeline (Ehukai Beach) and Waimea Bay to soak in the rays and watch daring surfers. Both amateur and professional surfing competitions take place during the winter months, especially at the Banzai Pipeline, which is considered a top location due to its massive waves and proximity to the beach where spectators can get a great view of the action. Some of the world’s premier surfing competitions occur here between November and February.
